Mountaineering SectionThe course began with four weeks of backpacking and mountaineering. Although we didn't not reach significantly high altitudes, the inclines we incurred were often steep and exhausting and sometimes technical. We also learned the true meaning of bushwhacking and the value of even the faintest cattle trail.

Sea KayakingThe second month of the course consisted of four weeks of coastal sea kayaking. We completed our planned route of about 200 nautical miles, which was not even a guarantee because of the unpredictable Patagonian weather. The wildlife in this section was incredibly abundant. We spotted sea lions, dolphins, penguins, and jellyfish nearly every day, in addition to the occasional pelican, sea otter, and albatross.
